Joseph O'Brien - Epsom Downs 2012 Winner

John O'Brien was born on 23 May 1993, is an Irish smooth racing jockey and the son of horse racing trainer Aidan O'Brien. This year he rode Camelot to win the 2,000 Guineas, the 2012 Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby. O'Brien won a bronze medal at the 2009 European Pony Championships and was one of three jockeys who distributed the Irish champ newbie jockeys' title in 2010.


He rode his first champion on Johann Zoffany, qualified by his dad, at Leopardstown Racecourse on 28 May 2009 and obtained his first traditional achievements when Roderic O'Connor won this year's Irish 2,000 Guineas. This year Aidan and John, 19, became the first father-son/trainer-jockey mixture to win the Epsom Derby, with Camelot.
